Special Inquiries Maritime Piracy

The Philippine archipelago consists of more than 7,100 islands and over 18,000 kilometers of shoreline. Of 1,500 municipalities in the country 832 are coastal villages or towns. This unique geography may account for the fact that the vast majority of the world’s maritime fleets are crewed by Filipino seafarers. In addition many others are employed on oil rigs along the African coast or in the oil fields of the Middle East. In both instances they are frequently hostages as the victims of mass kidnappings from work sites or piracy in the worlds shipping lanes. This unusual situation frequently generates a corporate need to locate employee next of kin for humanitarian purposes or to debrief victims after release. With close contacts in the Maritime Academy’s, and Seafarer’s Unions the JAF Group is ideally positioned to fill this need. JAF Partners Jake and Danny Fernandez are both fluent in all aspects of Tagalog as well as many provincial dialects. They are retired U.S. Federal Law Enforcement Officers with significant counterintelligence and counter-terrorism experience. Their use in locating next of kin in remote areas of the Philippines and/or debriefing released Filipino hostages eliminates the need for third party interpreters and keeps all phases of the locating and debriefing process in the hands of highly trained, experienced, law enforcement/counterintelligence professionals.
